Mote serves as an essential tool for teachers who wish to extend their presence in the classroom. For instance, Ms. Goodman, a second-grade teacher, utilized Mote to record instructions that students could follow independently while she focused on small group teaching. By identifying the purple speaker icon, students knew they could hear her guidance and proceed with their tasks.
Another example involved a third-grade teacher who planned for a substitute teacher. Instead of relying on written instructions alone, she embedded her voice in the slides, ensuring her instructions were clear and her presence felt, even in her absence.
To use Mote in this way, educators can open the Mote recorder in Google Slides, where they have up to three minutes to record with the premium version, or one and a half minutes with the free version. Multiple notes can be added to a slide, allowing comprehensive audio guidance.
Mote empowers students to infuse their writing with their voice, adding a personal touch to their work. A third-grade student expressed her joy in using Mote, saying, "I really love being able to add my voice captions." This feature not only personalizes writing but also enhances engagement and ownership.
In Ms. Macfarlane's fourth-grade class, students were encouraged to complete their nonfiction writing. As a reward, they could transform their work into an audiobook using Mote, which encouraged creativity, fluency practice, and self-editing.
By integrating Mote, educators can address literacy comprehensively, covering reading, writing, speaking, and listening, thus supporting holistic language development.
One of the standout benefits of Mote is its ability to save educators time while enhancing instruction. By recording directions and feedback, teachers can focus on personalized student interactions and reduce repetitive explanations.
